My hacked cable adapter broke today. One of the three wires on one of the plugs broke off. Since I am not home I don't have access to any tools. First thing handy was hot glue gun, but that didn't work.
Sat down to think, I realised that my drive will be pretty boring without sound (mainly podcasts) and I will end up buying expensive Apple OEM adapter. So what I ended up doing was I went for a ride to Lowe's and picked up $19 soldering gun. I thought that was a better investment that buying new expensive cable. Thus I soldered damaged wire back and now it's back in order.
To sum it all up, my hacked up cable lasted roughly four months before needing repair. Compare to one week of a cheap replica.
